Update: Chicago Screenwriters Network is moving to a new location (the West Loop’s Porkchop restaurant) and CSN’s 4th annual screenwriting contest, open to Midwestern writers, starts accepting entries from Jan. 15 through the late deadline of April 30.

The next meeting will be January 8, 2012 at the Porkchop Restaurant, 941 W. Randolph at 5:30pm. $5 CSN donation. Professional actors will read the first five pages of seven diverse scripts that have been chosen by board vice president Christina Wollerman.

Chicago Screenwriter's Network

Chicago Screenwriter’s Network was founded in 1995 and is a group of screenwriters and filmmakers that offers members a community of collaboration to discuss screenwriting, review member scripts and gain knowledge from those who have professional experience.

CSN holds monthly meetings in Chicago at 6 P.M. on the first Sunday of each month. Anyone can attend and CSN asks for a mere $3 donation to cover expenses from all attendees (http://www.chicagoscreenwriters.org/faqs.htm) . Not only to screenwriters have the opportunity to network, but they also are treated to an hour-long guest speaker that discusses issues associated with screenwriting. Previous guest speakers have included such individuals as actor, producer and director, Harold Ramis, Ghostbusters and Analyze This.

The meetings also provide an opportunity for screenwriters to participate in a script exchange in which the writer provides three copies of his or her script and then receives three scripts from other writers. Writers who exchange scripts meet an hour before the regularly scheduled monthly meeting the following month and provide feedback to one another.

In addition, CSN also holds an annual screenwriting contest, with the winner receiving a $1,000 reward, as well a six month listing on Inktip and logline submission to WGA agencies (http://www.csncontest.org/contestresults/2010/winners.html). The screenplay competition is open only to residents of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
